BELSTAFF SS18

Exciting designs driven by exciting pastimes. Belstaff injected Somerset House with a heavy dose of exhilaration at their SS18 LFWM show “Paris to Dakar”. The collection, inspired by the 10,000km Dakar rally, an intense off road race known for its dangerous and radical conditions, reinterpreted their traditional stylings as they evolved their focus away from the heavy leather biker jacket silhouettes we have adored but already experienced many times in the past.

Belstaff incorporated an assembling of fresh and novel materials into their SS18, adding summer friendly textures to their items and manipulating them in aid of bringing a softer flowing, lightweight essence to their designs. Outerwear evolved this season, with the appearance of oversized orange cagoule’s, shiny khaki bomber’s and knee length latex jackets standing amongst more muted reworked designs of their signature leathers. Some leather jackets were embellished with motocross racing stripes, referring back to the collections influences.

Racing paraphernalia was also woven into knitwear and a strong colour palette flowed through the collection as pastels and florals were combined with burnt oranges, a colour progression complimentary of the Dakar journey. Belstaff’s SS18 designs encompassed all aspects of the Dakar rally as we travelled through a collection that encapsulated the beauty and diversity of different cultures and climates and then applied said sentiments to their new menswear vision.
