DILARA FINDIKOGLU COLLABORATES WITH MARILYN MANSON FOR AW17

WORDS Kara Douglas

Dilara Findikoglu’s AW17 collection was a decadent embarkment into the avant-garde realms of fashion. Set in a dystopian limbo, somewhere between the tempestuous state of our current world and a post apocalyptic future, Findikoglu presented Milan fashion week with an intriguing and authentic utopia she named “New World Order”.

Set within the juxtaposing, historic walls of the Sir John Soane’s Museum, Findikoglu’s collaboration with Marilyn Manson stood prominent, an indulgent feast for the eyes. Every detail was intricately constructed to aid in projecting Findikoglu’s rebellious and theatrical vision. Models adorned dramatic green face paints, gold eyebrows and some model's hair was moulded into tall flames and large horns, almost reminiscent of the powerful silhouette of maleficent. However, the true beauty lay within Findikoglu’s designs. The collection encompassed a plethora of layered textures such as PVC and glitter, that in motion were wonderfully complemented by lighting. A strong colour palette of space driven metallics and romantically deep toned gothic reds and blacks were seen draped over Findikoglu’s army of futuristic aliens as they sported metallic green coats, embellished with dragon embroidery and fluffy trimmed sleeves and tartan kilts were emblazoned with beautiful beading.

Dilara Findikoglu’s collection was uninhibited and deliciously confident, a refreshing escape from the otherwise soft and chic designs of the current fashion week. A collection with a poignant message of self assurance and independence, wrapped in the entrancing vision of another dimension. Wonderment is here, in this most sumptuous of futures.
