The Hollywood Forever Cemetery was home to the 14th annual Johnny Ramone Tribute event on August 11, 2019. Johnny’s widow — and one of two Ramones heirs — Linda Ramone hosted the night, along with the night’s curator Vincent Gallo. Guests celebrated Johnny’s life, starting with fond memories shared between Linda and leading prostate cancer researcher Dr. David Agus. The two remembered an evening shared with Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder, descendents of a punk rock legacy now boasting multiple generations. Cornell is buried near the iconic Johnny Ramone statue, in the same area where the night’s event took place. Following Linda’s moving introduction was a performance which featured Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, Fred Armisen, and members of Starcrawler. The evening concluded with a screening of the cult classic The Warriors, a film celebrating its 40th anniversary.
As always the night brings out droves of Ramones fans, and this year was no exception. Guests included Exene and Billy Zoom of Los Angeles punk band X, Henry Rollins, Shepard Fairey, Jesse Malin, fashion designer Dilara Findikoglu and director Tony Kaye.
Linda Ramone succeeded at another night immortalizing punk legacy and Johnny Ramone’s memory, all while also providing money to prostate cancer research.
